Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month

September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month....

Thyroid Cancer Cafe

Picture
From previous years....

September is thyroid cancer awareness month. We held a virtual 'Thyroid Cancer Cafe' to talk about your experiences with thyroid cancer, moderated by Judith Taylor who is herself a two-time thyroid cancer survivor.  Scroll down for a video link to learn more about Judith's experiences with thyroid cancer and her long commitment to patient advocacy.

Here are a few things we might talk about at this year's Thyroid Cancer Cafe ( your additional ideas will also be welcome):
  • When and how were you diagnosed?
  • What information and support have you had during your thyroid cancer 'journey'? How could it be improved?
  • Did you use the 'low iodine diet'? What was your experience?
  • Did you have RAI? If so, were you given Thyrogen or did you follow the thyroxine 'withdrawal' method? How was your experience?
  • Do you have any ongoing issues after your surgery?
  • We might also talk about returning to work and financial/economic issues, sometimes known as 'the right to be forgotten'.

Everything you say will be confidential and the discussion will not be recorded or shared anywhere afterwards.

Book to attend via Eventbrite

24 Questions videos

Judith was interviewed by Joanna Dixon last year as part of our new series, 24 Questions. #TTT24Q

24 Questions is a series of discussions, aiming to get to know people with thyroid disease, explore their experiences and air some of the issues that matter to them.

Let us know if you enjoy watching the interview and if you'd like to see more similar content - thyroid friends chatting and getting to know each other, with some surprises. Watch out in Joanna's interview for a guest appearance by Hope the dog!

Joanna and Judith both have lived experience of thyroid cancer. The two got on very well and surprise surprise, Judith's dog Poppy also makes a guest appearance! Watch Judith's interview above and you can see Joanna being interviewed in an earlier video, below.

If you would like to get involved in thyroid cancer awareness month, 24 Questions or any other aspect of our work, please get in touch! We'd love to hear from you.
We are dependent on donations to be able to continue and our aim is to do much more to make things better for thyroid patients as we, hopefully, grow. Please support us.
